Meeting
Notes by
Eldon Kibbey, Moderator
The July meeting was held at Eagle Creek Grace Brethren Church from 7:00pm – 9:00pm, with the following men in attendance: Eldon Kibbey, Neil Cox, David Putman, Steve Ellson, Ray Childers, Bob Amon, Bob Neel, Steve Becker, and Mike Wildey.
We brought the new men up to speed by reading the notes from the previous meeting, and continued our discussion of, “What would a transformed Indy/ Indiana look like?”
Fewer jails needed
Mentoring for those in prison, to reduce recidivism
Solving of root causes
Families staying together – changes in laws which would encourage that
Better balance in media reporting
(I had a conversation today with a lady who works with street kids in Ft Wayne, which made me realize that a Transformed Indiana wouldn’t have that problem.)
We spent some time in group prayer, then had some discussion about the purpose of our meetings & where we are headed. The purpose for our original meeting in May was,
“Share visions & strategies for transforming Indiana through the power of Jesus Christ in the lives of its people
Develop an overall vision that unifies the diverse visions and strategies”
Bob Neel shared about the coalition that is developing between some churches in Mooresville & some in the inner-city of Indianapolis.
Dave Putman distributed flyers on “Indiana Solemn Assembly” which announced a prayer meeting in the State Capitol Rotunda on 8/8/02 from 10:00am – 1:00pm. He pointed out that this was one of the items on last month’s list!
Dave also pointed out, from his experience, the 3 things necessary for a sustained prayer effort:
A clear vision which is continually articulated (key to any sustained effort)
A continuous flow of specific prayer requests
Feedback of answered prayer
We discussed the need for a clear purpose & vision for our group, a statement of faith, and broader representation from other groups, faiths, and races. In light of this we concluded:
Dave will invite Sallye Burton, head of the IN Strategic Prayer Network,
Eldon will invite Curt Smith of the Indiana Family Institute
Dave will invite 2 evangelical Catholic friends
We will seek to have the Sep meeting in a black church, in order to encourage participation by the black community
Steve Ellson will invite Kurt Schoch, a management consultant, to facilitate the development of a Statement of Faith at our August meeting
Each of us will look at Statements of Faith that are currently available, in order to prepare for that meeting
We will plan to meet at Northview Christian Life, in Carmel, on Thursday, Aug 15, from 7:00pm – 9:00pm
Respectfully submitted
Eldon Kibbey
7/25/02 Update
Northview is confirmed for Aug 15 - 5535 East 131st Street, Carmel
Kurt Schoch will be unable to join us, but he & Steve Ellson will develop a procedure for our meeting, which Steve will facilitate
