As an indirect result of Dr. Bill
Bright’s ministry I received Christ as my savior in September of 1972.
Friends of my parents attended Expo 72
(Campus Crusade event held in Dallas, TX) where they learned how to share
their faith in Jesus. Shortly afterward they invited my parents and me
to their home, and lead us through the 4 Spiritual Laws booklet that Dr.
Bright developed. About a week later, I responded positively to the
invitation to ask Jesus to become my Savior and Lord.
Later in the fall of 1972 my brother who
was attending North Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana introduced me
to the High School ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. Through this
ministry, my rock n’ roll guitar playing days were replaced with voluntarily
leading high school bible studies and a new focus on gospel music.
During my early walk with the Lord, I
asked Him to direct me to a godly wife (Debbie). This September 2003 we
will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary!
I also asked God to direct me to a
vocation that I would enjoy, and which would enable to help others. In answer
to this prayer, He lead me to a vocation and over a 5 year period prepared me
spiritually and technologically which that allowed my wife and I to serve as
staff members of Campus Crusade from June of 1978 through June of 1984 in the
computer center at the international headquarters of Campus Crusade located in
San Bernardino, California. I continue to work in the computer industry
in a secular capacity; however, my wife and I remain committed to the
organization of Campus Crusade for Christ. Today we support the ministry
of five staff families and other missions.
God has been so wonderful to my family.
Dr. Bright and the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ hold a special and
significant place in my walk with the Lord. I will always remember when I was
fighting Hodgkin’s disease, a form of cancer, in 1980. In spite of his
busy schedule, Dr. Bright called me just to pray with me over the phone and
encourage me with the following verse,
“Delight
yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit
your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.” Psalm 37:4-5
